I was raised on a farm in Anthony, NM. I am a graduate of Gadsden High School. I received my BA in Government from NMSU. Upon graduation, I began my career with the US Federal Government with the US Bureau of Prisons. I later transferred to the US Marshal Service and became a Deputy US Marshal in 1990. I was ultimately promoted to Task Force Commander. As Task Force Commander I supervised various Federal Agents as well as many State and Local Criminal Investigators. I have been married to Melanie Altuna-Vigil for over 25 years, and we have two children Jason and Briana.
I believe our County is full of hard-working and deserving citizens. The citizens of Dona Ana County have my personal promise that I will use my knowledge and experience in law enforcement to build a safer future for our families.

Enrique "Kiki" Vigil for Sheriff 2014
I have had the pleasure and privilege in serving our great country as a member of the United States Marshal Service. My 25 plus years of law enforcement has provided me with a sound foundation, which I acquired effective and practical management and leadership skills. I was able to promote within the ranks to Task Force Commander. I firmly believe in leadership by example and never ask your staff to do what you are not willing to do personally. As Sheriff, I will restore the morale back to the professional first line staff and hold the administrative staff accountable by providing the necessary training and resources to help improve public and officer safety.
"Kiki has the experience and knowledge needed to keep our communities safe. His dedication and commitment to Dona Ana County is unsurpassed and he will make a great Sheriff."
